How I Became a Nudist and Joined the GoTopless Effort Through the Raelian Movement

Guest website by: Judith S.
The first thing people ask me when they find out I’m a naturist is, When did you become a nudist?
The easiest way I will describe it is that being an associate of the International Raelian Movement helped me get more comfortable with my body and hence nudity generally. Raelians believe the body is natural and nothing to be embarrassed of. We are all distinct, unique and beautiful and should feel comfortable in our own skin.
Many are unfamiliar with or have misconceptions about the Raelian Movement in general, so I’ll just briefly describe what it is all about. The Raelian Movement is considered an atheist doctrine. We do not believe in a “God” that’s up in the clouds, and it is a religion in the sense that we have an organized group of beliefs, i.e.:
We were created to love, be happy and take care of each other.
We must assemble a unbiased embassy to welcome back the Elohim so that they’ll share their advanced technology with humanity and help us fix this planet.
“Rael” (Claude Vorilhon) Founder of the Raelian Movement
The movement was founded by Claude Vorilhon, a French journalist and race car driver in 1973 after he’d a chain of UFO meetings which he wrote about in a novel called Intelligent Design: Message from the Designers. He’s got other publications as well which can all be downloaded for free at
There is certainly a familiar misconception that we are UFO cult.” This may be because a lot of photographs of Rael reveal him with a replica of the UFO he struck, and a lot of members do not cut their hair and have been called “hippies. The term ‘cult’ has negative connotations, and we don’t meet the definition of one because any Raelian is free to leave the movement at any time without pressure. Rael even warns us never to get overly attached to him and stresses that what is significant is the message, not the messenger.
My first meeting with social nudity was actually at a Raelian self improvement seminar in Mexico, or Happiness Academy as they are dubbed. Some folks were topless or totally naked during certain workshops and even though I was too timid to join in, I secretly envied their carefree attitude towards nudity. I got as far as going around in my bra for one workshop and that was exciting for me.
But I truly started embracing it when I was asked to function as the representative for the International Go Topless rally in Pittsburgh, PA, which is a annual protest Raelians organize all over the world to bring knowledge of women’s topless rights ( . These protests are done on or around August 26th which is Women’s Equality Day. The simple assumption is that if men can be topless in public without getting arrested, girls should enjoy exactly the same constitutional right.
2012 GoTopless Rally in D.C. Photo:
I had already planned on being present at the rally in NYC, where it is really legal for women to be totally topless, but had not decided whether I’d take off my top. Therefore I needed to get comfortable being topless ASAP! The only one judging me was my dog and I do not believe he cared.
I then moved to cleaning in the buff and walking around nude in the home. I found it so gratifying and realized I did not have to set the air conditioner on all the time. I also started to sleep nude. That took some getting used to, but was fully worth it. I am sure you know the benefits of being unclothed in general but sleeping in the buff tops the list of one of the healthiest things it is possible to do for your own body.
By the time the Pittsburgh GoTopless rally came along, I thought I was prepared for public semi-nudity (as I’d only be topless, not fully naked). While most of the reactions were positive (from guys), nothing could prepare me for the rude reactions and gestures of a number of people. In Pittsburgh it is illegal for girls to show their nipples so I wasn’t 100% exposed. That is amazing, I believed! Why don’t more girls include being topless? Why do not they take off those confining bras and let the boobs respire? That rally was a success and I am convinced we planted the seed in some women’s heads about embracing topfreedom.
From that point on, I recognized that I loved being bare and did not care what people thought. I can’t help the way I look and did not ask to be born this way so I can’t let it prevent me from experiencing the independence and health benefits that nudity brings. I am getting excited about checking out the nude beaches in my new home state which means no tan lines and best of all: skinny dipping!
More about Raelianism: Raelians campaign for human rights through a few different social justice endeavors, and Go Topless is just one single of them. Others are Clitoraid, which is a charity that offers free surgery for victims of female genital mutilation, Aramis which embraces all types of sexual orientations, Paradism which can be a society without money, greed, and government thru the promotion of science & technology, 1 Minute for Peace which is meditating one minute as often as possible for world peace as human minds have the capacity to affect world events. And eventually, the Back to Kama project seeks to bring Kama, which can be the original name for Africa before was colonized, to its formal glory by encouraging investments and jobs there.

Poland Naturist – Photography & A Cafe Named After Physiology

In the old days an air bulb was used to pneumatically release the shutter. Nowadays you merely have to press a button.
I was asked to ensure you could tell it was a garbage dump. I’m not prone to questioning a girl’s motives but I admit the request left me baffled. I dutifully place to the bulb setting and warned everybody not to go. They didn’t listen.

The problem with subdued light is that you must keep the shutter open for longer to allow enough light to enter the camera. If the issue goes at all, or if the camera moves, due to, let us say, quivering hands, the image comes out blurred.
That night Darek drove me back to Sauna Cezar. Gosia and Babuka were in the back seat. She was attending her own party that night and needed a ride home. Combing through a dark neighborhood we eventually located her at the gate of a house. Gosia mentioned young love and its neediness. Before she had pointed out the strangeness of a mother going to get her daughter from a celebration at the center of the night. She appeared distant.
Babuka began talking about the Vagina Cafe. She told the story of how she hadn’t been certain if she’d heard the name right the first time it had been mentioned. When she recognized it was just what she thought it was her first thought was that Gosia had to be very “cool.” She started asking questions. Why was the cafe called Vagina? What was its goal? Gosia fought to clarify herself in painfully broken English. From what I could assemble it seemed like she wanted to create a place for women to be able to talk freely about .
Lots of folks presumed the bar was for homosexuals and lesbians – including gays and lesbians. Gosia told the story of how one female client had come for more as opposed to java. When the error became apparent the girl decided to stay away out of humiliation. After a little while she came back and declared the truth. She’d made a bad premise. It appears that in Poland, like many parts of the western word, referencing sexual anatomy in an edgy way is perceived as being primarily the purview of perverts and liberals, dirty homosexuals being the most obvious sort.
Gosia in Dimmed Light at Sauna Cezar
Darek drove rapidly. I began taking pictures through the windshield. With the bulb setting the lights of the road combined into brilliant lines of complex color. I showed the exposures to the women in the back seat. Gosia took an interest – just like she’d in the morning. I thought of the pictures I ‘d taken of her swimming and showering. She’d stumbled upon a vain effort of mine to take a good picture in the subdued light by the sauna.. I had asked her if she’d be willing to be photographed. She promptly adopted a comely pose. To no avail. Everything came out blurry.
I attribute the quivering hands.

Every Wonder How Naturism and Naturism Began and Evolved?

Nudism Throughout History
A society’s attitude toward public nudity can show a terrific deal about its culture, attitudes and sometimes its religious beliefs. Nudity is sometimes extended to every area of life, while in other circumstances it is confined to particular settings or actions. For instance, some societies condone nudity during athletic activities, while encouraging the wearing of garments at other times. Standards vary widely from one culture to another.
The practice of habitually wearing garments is a pretty recent creation in human history. In primeval times our distant ancestors, evolving in Africa and migrating into a world of tropical and temperate climates, were surely nude most or all of the time. Nevertheless, as people expanded into colder areas, they quickly had to adapt artificial covering, so that as soon as they did that, additionally they began embracing customs to govern what clothing should be worn, so when it should be worn. In distinct societies clothing or having less it’s been seen as being sexual in nature, as connoting social status or the deficiency of it, as signaling a particular religious or philosophical association, or as signifying a certain economical station. Early texts from many cultures refer to the poor and downtrodden as naked, and in a society with that attitude, someone who could afford clothing would definitely wear them to show they weren’t poor and downtrodden. It is easy to understand how clothes immediately became more than the usual functional body covering, and started to assume other societal significance.
History of Naturism
In some ancient societies, the display of the naked body was linked into a particular spiritual doctrine. For instance, the Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaten, who ruled from about 1353 to 1336 B.C., worshiped the sun disc and believed that the body should be proudly shown in its light. Delineations of Akehnaten and his queen, Nefertiti, reveal them wearing very little clothing whatsoever, basking in the sacred light of the sun. While Akhenaten may have been the first of the pharaohs to attach a religious connotation to the practice of public nudity, he surely did not invent the concept in Egyptian culture. Egyptian delineations from considerably earlier periods also show folks wearing no clothes, or clothing that was form-fitting and also clear. The early Egyptians were fairly open about sexuality, and attached a strong sensual connotation to their own near-nakedness. Art from ancient Egypt sometimes depicts sexual acts in quite explicit and even comical ways.
Another ancient groups attached less of an sexual meaning to nakedness. In India, for instance, certain religious sects required nudity as a sign of the renunciation of worldly possessions. Our knowledge with this comes from Greek historians of the time of Alexander the Great, who reported that there were several of these sects, the largest of which was called the Ajivikas. The Greeks called these groups gymnosophists, from their word gymnos, meaning nude. The point to be stressed here is that it was a completely different meaning for nudity than in the Egyptian culture. While the Egyptians were openly sexual and clearly took great joy in showing their bodies, the Indian ascetics used nudity as an indicator of giving up worldly happiness and adopting a pure and sacred mind-set.
Michelangelo Statue of David
Nevertheless, nudity in ancient India was not strictly an ascetic thing, for the Hindu faith also understood the holiness of sexuality. A Hindu sect called the Sakas, who were flourishing about a thousand years ago, decorated their temples with expressly erotic art. Sexuality was viewed as a sacred matter, the procreative power of the divine. Such sexual sculpture can be seen today at Indian sites for example Khajurako, Konarak and Ellora.
The Greeks had a custom of nudity that included both a blunt admiration for the beauty of the human anatomy and a deep seated spiritual doctrine. The Greeks believed that their gods had created people to look like themselves, so there was no shame in exhibiting our own godlike forms. Greek deities are usually depicted as perfect physical specimens wearing few if any clothing, and their mortal worshipers embraced the same style. Greek garments were simple pieces of cloth draped or wrapped around the human body fast removed at a moment’s notice. If your individual in ancient Greece were working or playing hard, they would believe nothing of removing the garment. The Greeks were saying, “Our gods are amazing, and since we look like the gods, we are amazing, also.” Specifically, it was anticipated that sportsmen would be naked when they participated in sports. Our word gymnasium comes from the Greek gymnos significance nude, since the people who worked out there always were.
The Romans adopted much of the culture in their Greek predecessors, but in Roman society nudity was strictly confined to particular settings and actions. Romans were expected to wear clothes in most public places, but nudity was condoned and also expected in athletic activities, in the public baths and at public latrines. The endorsement of nudity in sports, and especially in gladiatorial competitions, was probably a practice inherited from the Etruscans, another ethnic forerunner of the Romans. depicts gladiators fighting fully naked.
Another historical society that relegates nudity to specific places and times is that of Japan. While Japanese culture permits the blunt discussion of erotic issues, as well as the teaching of sexual techniques to future newlyweds, nakedness is typically frowned upon. The nude human body isn’t considered a fitting subject for art, and even paintings of fans in bed show them fully clothed. However, Japanese culture also makes allowance for group bathing, often by big family groups. Until the 20th century, such communal bath was a routine part of daily life for many Japanese, as well as now it is still practiced in some out of the way areas.
russian nudist bathing practices can be found in the cultures of ancient Turkey and some northern European cultures like those of Scandinavia. All these cultures firmly discouraged nudity in other public settings.
Other ethnic groups who did not cover their bodies were considered subhuman, and a powerful awareness of physical modesty was taken as evidence of the superiority of Chinese culture. Girls weren’t even permitted to uncover their bodies for his or her physicians, and had to point out their aches and pains on dolls especially made for the function.
Paganism, both in its ancient and modern types, makes use of ritual nakedness which will be normally confined to particular places and occasions. Those who conformed to Wicca or some other early faiths would sometimes dance naked, or “sky-clad” during seasonal rites. Among people who hold such beliefs now, the practice is sometimes still carried on. In these contexts, nakedness is seen as a state of naturalness making the worshiper more open to divine power. As in other societies, nudity is closely linked to both religious belief and sexual abandon, which usually are not seen as being opposed to each other.
